Richard Rogers: The Bordeaux Law Courts, France, 1998

"In 1992, Richard Rogers Partnership won the international competition to design new law courts for the historic city of Bordeaux. The brief called for a modern building that would, through its feeling of transparency and openness, create a positive perception of the French judicial system. This image captures the simple programme of public and private space with seven courtroom vessels under a sculptural roof, wholly lit by natural light. The building becomes a transparent and animated surface for artificial lighting at night, when the building becomes a potent symbol of civic pride."
